Image Database

Managing large collections of images and associated data is a major challenge of collections managers. In this example an image database from Microvision has been used to manage the database. Completely customizable using Microsoft’s Access database as the engine, makes this database much more appropriate for multiuser applications where design decisions evolve.

Tray Imaging

Many collections are organized into trays containing multiple specimens. Giving access to these trays to researchers and interested parties causes immense logistical, access and security problems for curators. GT Vision provide a system that allows pictures of the entire tray (low mag) and the individual specimens (high mag) to be collected rapidly using a scanning stage system with a camera mounted above and special lighting. Databases of the collections can be kept and made available to researchers and the wider public in a more manageable way.
